“And looking at them Jesus said to them, “With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26
August was a month of seeing God do impossible things.
- The last weekend of July I was told I needed to move out of my rental house by the 1st of September! All the places I looked at either weren’t available or lacked essential features. But then through an amazing sequence of events God led me to a one-room rental with a Nicaraguan family very close to the church building. And I’m all moved in!
- The Larges were away for a couple of weeks right at the same time I was trying to figure out and make the move. God brought a young Nicaraguan pastor and his wife to help cover youth group, church, and Sunday School for one of the weeks, and the church folks themselves helped cover the other weeks. And God helped me mightily with Spanish trying to have so many different conversations related to coordinating activities as well as the move.
- Many of our missionary ladies in the capital were on furlough or otherwise unavailable this month, so for the monthly Church Planters Institute they had almost no one to to teach the ladies sessions. They were so desperate they scraped the bottom of the barrel and asked me if I could teach some sessions. By God’s amazing grace, He helped me teach 3 sessions totally in Spanish to this wonderful group of pastors’ wives.
- Some of you may remember the Y Family with whom I do a weekly English class. God is doing amazing things and all the children, the mom, the aunt, the uncle, and 2 cousins have started coming regularly to the church and the kids have been faithfully coming to youth group!
- August 22-August 31 was an intense time for my Spanish tutor who was nearly 9-months pregnant. L was hospitalized with critical complications. She and the baby nearly died, but God got them through and they saw the love of Christ for them with so many people praying for them. I had the privilege of making almost daily trips to the hospital bringing family members and supplies and visiting and then helping bring her and baby D home. Visited her today. The baby is fine now; she still has a long road to recovery.
- Got to meet again with C (the bi-lingual girl from my final bus ride) and we are starting a long-distance Bible study together. It is awesome to hear what changes God is already doing in her life as a new follower of Jesus.
Hard to believe only one more month here in SJdS. Pray that God would help me stay faithful and finish strong. Pray for the church here which has been going through a number of stuggles and many of the families are facing very difficult situations. Pray for a pastor for this church and a young couple to work with teens and kids.
Ephesians 3:20-21 “Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.”
